The Government of Mongolia, The Mongolian Nature’s Legacy Foundation and The Nature Conservancy Organization have signed an agreement to start the "Eternal Mongolia" program with sustainable funding for the conservation of land massing to 144,000 km2. According to the agreement, over 15 years, 71 million US dollars will be provided by international donors, and 127 million US dollars will be provided by the Government of Mongolia.
With the implementation of the program, the appropriate form of traditional animal husbandry and sustainable tourism will be developed, the importance of nature conservation will be emphasized along with economic activities, the infrastructure and management system of specially protected areas will best strengthened at the national level, and natural and fresh water resources will be protected.
The agreement is expected to be one of the largest and most important climate finance agreements in Asia, a model for other countries to follow.
